Abstract

In two renal allograft recipients, antibodies directed against renal tubular epithelial (RTE) antigens of the graft developed after transplantation. The anti-RTE antibodies were found after graft nephrectomy in one recipient. In the other recipient these antibodies were demonstrated 3 months after transplantation. The anti-RTE activity in the sera of this recipient could be absorbed with tubular epithelial antigen from urine, which is known to induce autologous immune complex nephritis in rats. The recipient, however, did not develop immune complex glomerulonephritis.
