Abstract

In light of prodigious levels of antiBlack violence throughout American history and increased reporting of workplace related racial violence, management scholars need to better understand how antiBlack violence is normalized in the workplace. This paper explores how mass media consumption at work can help to maintain racially hostile organizational cultures by establishing violent discourse regarding African Americans as ‘normal’ and ‘acceptable’ workplace speech.
