Abstract

Difficulties in the management of infections in patients aged 65 years or older are certainly familiar to many doctors, including infectious diseases specialists. In an open-label, cluster randomised controlled trial, Sif Helene Arnold and colleagues1 were able to reduce the number of antibiotic prescriptions for urinary tract infections (UTI) by 58% in Danish nursing home residents without substantially increasing the risk of all-cause hospitalisation or death.
