Abstract

The problem of antibiotic residues in milk has been thoroughly reviewed in a series of papers by Marth and Ellickson (1959 a and 1959 b) and by Marth (1961 a and 1961 b). In this series, the authors summarized information on (1) the presence of antibiotics in milk and milk products, (2) some of the problems resulting from the presence of antibiotics in milk, (3) surveys of milk supplies in several countries, (4) how antibiotics are used in an attempt to control mastitis, and (5) methods for detection of antibiotics in milk.
