Abstract
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) are resistant to β-lactam antibiotics, which inhibit bacterial cell wall synthesis. In this issue of Cell Host & Microbe, Müller etal. (2015) show that β-lactam treatment of MRSA leads to synthesis of an altered cell wall that increases inflammasome activation and immunopathology during skin infection.
