Abstract

The present study describes the antibacterial activities of essential oil and methanol extract of Eucalyptus procera leaves. The antibacterial activities of essential oil and methanol extract of E. procera has been investigated against Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia Coli, Salmonella typhimurium. The essential oil and polar and nonpolar subfraction of methanol extract showed good antibacterial activity against both Gram (+) and Gram (−) microorganism except for P. aeruginosa and S. typhimurium (with MIC ≤ 500.0 μg mL-1). Our findings demonstrate that the essential oil and methanol extract of E. procera possess antimicrobial activities that might be a natural potential source of preservative used in food and other allied industries.
