Abstract

Scaevola taccada is one of coastal plants founded at Riau Island.. This research aims to determine the antibacterial activity of the crude extracts leaves of Scaevola taccada. this research was conducted in several stages including, sample preparation, extraction of leaves with maseration method, photochemical analysis and antibacterial activity test using the agar disc diffusion technique. The phytochemical results, crude leaves extract contained flavonoid, tannins, steroids, and saponins. The results of the antibacterial activity test showed that there was an inhibition of antibacterial activity on Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli as indicated by the presence of a clear zone. Based on the results of the research, it was concluded that both ectract had antibacterial activity.
