Abstract

Candida are ubiquitous yeasts and members of the natural human microflora, microorganisms that commonly live in or on our bodies and most commonly in the GI tract, the mouth, and vagina. Candida spp. are rapidly gaining resistance to a limited number of commonly used antifungal agents, making the treatment of fungal infections often ineffective. Inhibiting fungal growth and virulence factors is an excellent strategy to reduce resistance, for which plant-based essential oils and their active components are excellent candidates.
