Abstract

Introduction: In Madagascar, the gastric ulcer prevalence raises to 2.3%. Generally, the gastric ulcer is one of the main problem that affects the digestive system that can be briefly defined as a loss of gastric substance wall reaching in-depth the muscular. In one hand, some medicinal plants are traditionally used against the gastric ulcer, among these plants is Paederia grevei (Rubiaceae plant family). This plant is known under the vernacular name of Lengomantsina. The goal of this work is to bring some highlight to the anti-ulcer activity of Paederia grevei and to validate its traditional use. Methods: This activity has been evaluated from three tests namely, mucoprotector, healing and anti-secretary. Results: The obtained results from experiences with rats show that Paederia grevei has a capacity mucoprotector by increasing the protection of the gastric mucous membrane in the rat after the administration of absolute ethanol. The protection of the gastric mucous membrane reached 79,02% at the batch treated with the hydroalcoolic amount of 600 mg/kg of the extract of Paederia grevei which is significantly meaningful compared to the pilot batch. After a continuous administration of indometacine, we observed that this extract improves the cicatrization of the lesions on the gastric wall. The surface of the lesions is of 8,33 ± 4,93 mm2 for the pilot batch whereas it is of 2,00 ± 1,69 for the treated batch with the amount of 600 mg/kg of Paederia grevei. In addition, the rough extract of Paederia grevei inhibits the acid gastric secretion, whose gastric pH contents increases by 2,09 ± 0,17 at the witness batches and 4,45 ± 0,69 at the batch treated with the amount of 600 mg/kg of the extract of Paederia grevei. Conclusion: One can thus say that our results confirm the traditional use of this plant.
