Abstract

Fight fire with fire - that9s the intent of the new, privately funded, multi-million dollar anti-tobacco center in Washington, D.C. National Center for Tobacco-Free Kids, scheduled to open in June 1996, is billing itself as the most significant non-governmental initiative ever organized to combat youth tobacco use. The Academy did not hesitate to support this endeavor, AAP Executive Director, Joe M. Sanders Jr., M.D., said. The pediatric disease of tobacco addiction is one that pediatricians have been battling on the front lines for a long time. We9re hopeful that the center9s resources will keep public attention on the issue.
