Abstract

The effects of laser surface texturing of aluminium alloy targets on the morphologies, wetting properties, and anti-reflection were studied. The parallel micro-trenches with a period of 50 µm were processed by fs-laser line scanning with different laser pulse fluences and laser scanning speeds. The laser textured surfaces showed some micro-cracks, micro-bumps, and micro-porous structures with some nanoparticles decoration. The water wetting response of the samples was measured by static contact angle measurements. With high laser fluence irradiation, the laser-textured Al alloy surfaces exhibited hydrophilic characteristics, while that of low laser fluence irradiation showed hydrophobic characteristics. Furthermore, the anti-reflection performance in the spectral range of 200–1200 nm with the value lower than 5% was obtained at high laser fluence irradiation. The results imply the potential applications of these surfaces in a variety of fields.
