Abstract

ABSTRACT For mathematical convenience, in scattering research, foundation soil is generally oversimplified to be uniform or horizontally stratified site. This study aims to evaluate anti-plane scattering by a circular cavity in complex stratified sites. To simulate the complex stratified sites, a novel scaled boundary finite element method (SBFEM) for scalar waves is first derived in the Hamilton system. The scattering analysis is performed utilizing the substructure replacement method. Numerical examples verify the accuracy of the method. Finally, the effects of the inclined and discontinuous stratified sites on the wave scattering of a circular cavity are investigated in frequency and time domains.
