Abstract

Testosterone, dihydrotestosterone, androstenedione, nortestosterone, norethandrolone, methandrostenolone, oxymetholone, oxandrolone, ethylestrenol, and stanozolol were tested for inhibitory effects on ovulation in the pubertal rat. All of the steroids tested showed anti-ovulatory effects and depressed ovarian weights. Five compounds had biphasic effects on uterine weight with depression at lower doses and stimulation at higher levels. Dihydrotestosterone, oxymetholone, and ethylestrenol showed only depression of uterine weight, while norethandrolone manifested only stimulation of weight gain by the uterus. Seven of the steroids increased body weight gain.
