Abstract
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the antimicrobial, anti-oxidant and anthelmintic potential of extracts of the herb Solanum xanthocarpum. The antimicrobial activity was tested against selected bacterial and fungal species by agar well diffusion method and the antioxidant activity was assessed using FRAP and reducing power scavenging assays. While that of anthelmintic activity was performed against the erthworms. The FRAP assay evaluates the ability of a substance to reduce Fe3+ to Fe2+. Preliminary phytochemical screening revealed the presence of saponins; phytosterols and carbohydrates in the plant.
