Abstract

Abstract Electrical characteristics of submerged entry nozzle (SEN) and non-metallic inclusions in molten steel were studied by both laboratory experiments and industrial tests, whereas the effect of surface charge on SEN clogging was also investigated. Results demonstrated that excess electric charges existed on inner surface of test nozzle, possibly causing the movement of alumina particles towards to the nozzle; the clogging of SEN would be restrained by SEN connection to the ground, to release excess electric charges generated on inner surface of SEN.
