Abstract
In the present study, in-vitro antibacterial screening of the alcoholic extracts of leaves and flowers of Rhododendron arboreum was investigated against Staphylococcus aureus bacterial culture. Staphylococcus aureus was isolated from infected throat was identified on the basis of Grams Staining and Biochemical tests by the method of Mannitol salt agar. Preliminary result showed prominent inhibition in the development of bacterial growth on agar plate. Solutions of different concentrations of agar and plant extract was mixed, after solidifying the bacterial culture was spread over the surface of culture media and it was incubated at 370C. After 24hrs of incubation growth was checked and inhibition was observed on agar plate, against the plant extract and the Antibacterial activity was recorded. In this study Antibacterial activity of leaf extract was found fair effective as compared to flower extract.
