Abstract

Animal studies have demonstrated that calorie restriction lowers the incidence of age-related diseases and leads to longer lifespans.1 However, a question that has not been answered is whether long-term calorie restriction has similar beneficial effects in humans. A recent study by Spadaro et al. attempted to address this question by leveraging data from the Comprehensive Assessment of Long-term Effects of Reducing Intake of Energy (CALERIE) clinical trial.2
