Abstract

The primary purpose of this chapter on the anthropometry of the Black Caribs is to assess possible microevolutionary divergence in physique between two populations residing in Livingston, Guatemala, and on St. Vincent Island, West Indies, given 180 years of separation. These populations belonged to the common ancestral group from St. Vincent. References to the historical studies of the Black Caribs in the area are given elsewhere in this volume (see Chapters 1 and 2). Secondarily, variation in the sexual dimorphism of the two populations is discussed.
