Abstract

An anthropometric research of 176 patients with umbilical hernia at the age of 56,74 ± 13,6 has been carried out. The vast majority of these patients were women (73,3%). A correlation between the size of the hernial defect and the patient's anthropometric characteristics has been established. Patients with the brachymorphic type of the constitution (61,4%), with a short trunk (76,1%) of the trapezoideal form (42,6%), a well-developed chest (96%), the male form of the abdomen (69,9%) and a small vertical index of the abdomen (53,4%) prevailed. Most of these patients (50%) had hernial defects of a medium size.
