Abstract
This paper is a humble attempt to make a brief survey on growth and development of Anthropology in India and to find out the research trends of this discipline in this country, with particular reference to social and cultural Anthropology. A Special emphasis shall be given in this paper to highlight the problems as well as prospects of Anthropology in India as it has been facing both external and internal challenges of contemporary times, as like as other parts of the globe. The paper is entirely based on review of relevant literatures supported by authors own research and teaching experience on this disciple for about 35 years.
