Abstract

The most famous anthropological work on youth, is also one of the best known anthropological works overall, which indicates that the consideration of the youth phase within anthropology is not a new phenomenon but deeply rooted in the history of the discipline. The referenced book, Coming of Age in Samoa, by Margaret Mead was first published in 1928 and is regarded as a classic of the discipline which comprises a long series of investigations and discussions on 'youth in other cultures'. In this work, only a short overview over this history can be provided.
