Abstract

This work consists of the application of a new geomorphological mapping methodology with a focus on anthropogenic landforms. The study area is the central sector of the metropolitan region of Joao Pessoa, where densely urbanized areas and rural areas are found, but with high human intervention. The geomorphological mapping methodology proposed in this work was developed from Brazilian, English, and Italian experiences and included extensive field trips. The result was quite satisfactory where the final map represents from the present geological foundation (morphostructure) to the current anthropogenic landforms. A broad and integrated legend representing all mapped taxa was also proposed. The geomorphological map produced, in addition to being a synthesis of the geomorphological research carried out, is an important tool for urban and environmental planning.
