Abstract

Non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NA-AION) is a rare complication of chronic hemodialysis in patients with end-stage renal disease. We present an interesting case of a 50-year-old patient on hemodialysis who presented with diminution of vision in the left eye (LE). The pupil showed a relative afferent pupillary defect in LE, and the rest of the anterior segment was within normal limits. A fundus revealed pallid disc edema. LE had color vision defect. Spectral-domain optical coherence tomography showed increased retinal nerve fiber layer thickness at the superior edge of the disc, confirming the diagnosis of NA-AION.
