Abstract

There are now several satellites systems in orbit-communications, navigation, broadcast and scientific satellites. For accessing to mobile communications service, active antenna pointing control may be required if the base mounted the antenna system is moving. In this paper, we propose an antenna control system with high response and high accuracy, implemented using a simple reliable mechanism with 3-axis attitude sensor and AGC sensor. The AGC level represents the strength of the received electric waves. In this research, we use an actively controlled 2-axis gimbal structure that provides control of azimuth and elevation, and 3-axis vibratory gyroscope for attitude sensor. 3-axis attitude sensor has an advantage of quick movement and can be produced high resolution, but produced low accuracy by drift after enough time. AGC sensor can be produced absolute position not depending on time, but produced low resolution. We improve tracking performance of the existing antenna system by using both merits of the AGC history and the base attitude measured with the 3-axis sensor.
