Abstract

This manuscript presents a beamforming scheme for vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications in the context of urban intersections. In this scheme, the parameters of a planar antenna array are optimized via particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithms. Simulations show that, in terms of received power and maximum connectivity range, the beamforming antenna array outperforms the current standard scheme of a single isotropic antenna in most cases, even in those where the algorithm has not been trained on. Thus, the proposed scheme has the potential of improving road safety in critical urban intersections.
