Abstract
AbstractThe ability to make an antenatal diagnosis of fetus in fetu by ultrasonography and fetography is described. The mother had developed hydramnios at 29 weeks of gestation, and ultrasonography showed two huge tumors in the abdomen and gluteal region. A fetography revealed distension at the abdominal and gluteal region, and displacement of the colon anteriad by the retroperitoneal mass. At 34 weeks of gestation, a female infant weighing about 3500 g was delivered by cesarean section. Subsequently, a laparotomy was performed, revealing a huge spheroidal retroperitoneal mass joined to the sacrococcygeal mass. Confirmatory pathological examination showed a thick capsule resembling a scalp and a poorly formed embryonic mass containing vertebral, long bones, and intestine. Four months postoperatively, the autosite was in good health.
