Abstract

In October 1995, a symposium on “Cerebral Protection in Cerebrovascular and Aortic Surgery” was held at the Schloshotel Buhlerhohe in Baden-Baden. At this international symposium prominent authorities concentrated on cerebral physiology, monitoring and protection in association with operations of the supra-aortic vessels and the aortic arch. Many controversial issues such as modes of cerebral monitoring in cerebrovascular surgery or antegrade versus retrograde perfusion in aortic arch surgery have been disscus-sed.
