Abstract

Nowhere in the world during the past four years have advancements of knowledge been so rapid, scientific discoveries so routine, or international cooperation and coordination so much in evidence as in Antarctica. Our knowledge of this great continent has increased manyfold in this period, and this advance shows no sign of diminishing. Even as this article is being written, new areas are being explored by oversnow vehicles in the interior and by ships along the coasts, and new scientific stations are being planned.
