Abstract

Theeffects offourantagonists onthedepolarization of isolated superior cervical ganglia andthecontraction of isolated ileal segments oftheratwerecompared. pA2 values estimated fromSchild plots indicated significantly higher affinities ofstercuronium (x100)and pirenzepine (x23)anda significantly loweraffinity of4-diphenylacetoxy-N-methylpiperidine methiodide (x0.39) fortheganglion thanfortheileum. Theaffinities ofN-methylscopolamine forthetwotissues were notsignificantly different. Itisconcluded that thetwo types ofmuscarinic receptor arenotidentical.
