Abstract

Ants are widely distributed in both tropics and temperate regions at different altitudes. They are both scavengers and predators, and serve as indicators of climate change at micro and macro levels. Monitoring of ants in the context of local environmental dynamics is therefore very important. Among numerous sampling mechanisms for ants, the pitfall trap method is a reliable approach. Relevant information on the different aspects of pitfall trap usage has been presented in this review.
