Highlights
The patient, a 34-year-old female runner, presented with a 6-week history of right hip pain that progressed slowly
Immunochemistry showed CD34/CD31 positivity, and the histological conclusion was that of a vasoformative lesion with local bony destruction compatible with cystic angiomatosis
Cystic angiomatosis of bone (CAB) is a rare pathologic entity characterised by several cysts of varying sizes involving the skeleton
Summary
The patient, a 34-year-old female runner, presented with a 6-week history of right hip pain that progressed slowly. At the time of initial presentation, a plain radiograph (Figure 1) was performed, demonstrating subtle lytic foci in the right supra-acetabular ileum and right lesser trochanter. Preliminary radiographic differential diagnoses included multiple myeloma, osteolytic metastatic disease, eosinophilic granulomas or cystic angiomatosis.
