Abstract

Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are cause of 30% of total global deaths and their development can be initiated by risk factors (RF), including the psychosocial ones, such as anxiety and depression. Studies evidence that the association between anxiety and CVD increases in 26% the risk of disease, while depressive disorders have a prevalence of approximately 10% incidence in the general population. It was conducted a literature review of anxiety and depression as RF for CVD in young adults. It was verified that the literature indicates the occurrence of a bidirectional association between these factors, since they contribute so much to development and for the poor prognosis of CVD. Referring to young people, the literature suggests that this population is inserted in various anxiogenic contexts, such as the university and the labor market, as well as they are susceptible to the manifestation of depressive symptoms. Accordingly, this paper highlights the need for more scientific research which provide empirical data about these FR in cardiovascular health of young adults.
