Abstract

Nelson called his battle plan for the Battle of Trafalgar “The Nelson Touch.” Bold and audacious—like Nelson himself—it relied on another “Nelson Touch” for the officers and men of the British fleet to win the day—his way of creating a powerful synergy between leaders and followers that the French could not hope to overcome. Nelson intuitively understood the importance of both leadership and followership. While he was a brilliant leader who could inspire his followers as only very few can and exceedingly few can emulate Nelson's special traits, many can learn to emulate his behaviors.
