[Extract] It is a wet Tuesday in Sussex, a very picturesque county on the south coast of England. I stare out of the window at Goodwood Airfield, with its grass runways and the once famous Goodwood racetrack where the world famous racing car drivers of the 1930s used to perform. This was also a Spitfire base during the Battle of Britain, and often, as l go for lunch in what used to be the old tower, I half expect to see Michael Caine run past me in Royal Air Force uniform, as in the Battle of Britain film.
