Abstract
SUMMARYAnorexia and cachexia are common in patients with advanced degenerative diseases. Cachexia is especially problematic in AIDS patients. These symptoms often result from or are exacerbated by other symptoms such as nausea and constipation. Potential causes and supportive care are described. Drug therapy that has been used is summarized. Evaluation instruments that have been used for this symptom are described. Some open research questions are listed. Evidence tables and drug therapy tables which include drug costs are presented.
