Abstract
The stretching frequencies of equatorial and axial fused tetrahydropen C 2-D bonds appear around 2190 and 2100 cm −1, with a wide multiplicity. These frequencies are lowered by 20 to 70 cm −1 when an OR group is added on C2. An sp 2 hybridization of the exocyclic oxygen may explain this variable effect.
