Abstract

We have measured the magnetic susceptibility and specific heats under several magnetic fields for Yb 3S 4. Its resistivity measurement using a DC method, however, failed since its conductivity is zero. From the inverse magnetic susceptibility the ratio of Yb 3+ and Yb 2+ ions per formula unit is estimated to be 4:1 and θ ∼ −62 K. A broad peak suggesting the Kondo peak appears in the specific heat. The peak shifts to higher temperature and becomes broader with increasing magnetic field.
