Abstract

Kondo systems, particularly heavy-fermion compounds, exhibit an extraordinary Hall effect which is ascribed to asymmetric scattering of conduction electrons. Theories based on the mechanism of skew scattering account for data at moderate and high temperatures, but not the striking anomalies observed at very low temperatures in heavy-fermion compounds. Here we calculate an additional contribution arising from anomalous velocity terms related to the so-called side-jump effect for systems of independent Kondo ions. We find this contribution becomes very large below the Kondo temperature.
