Abstract

Upon warming it is observed that the spin-spin relaxation time for dilute solutions of 3He in solid 4He decreases. This is contrary to common expectation, where the effect of increasing motion is to lengthen the relaxation time. Anomalous behaviour of spin diffusion measurements in this system have been explained by the quasi one dimensional motion of the 3He atoms along dislocation lines in the crystal. We show that this will also account for the unusual behaviour of the spin relaxation time.
