Abstract

A 3,000‐gamma closed negative anomaly, approximately 15 ft in diameter and roughly circular in outline, was found during a total intensity magnetic survey in the Leesburg quadrangle, Loudoun County, Virginia. This anomaly is on the farm of C. R. Tillett near Waxpool, 7.75 miles south‐southeast of Leesburg, at latitude 39°00′39″N and longitude 77°31′51″W (Figure 1). The area surveyed exhibits essentially no topographic relief. It is underlain by a diabase sill of Triassic age that dips 20–30 degrees to the west. Fairly fresh diabase outcrops are randomly scattered throughout the area.
