Abstract

The influence of annealing and subsequent cooling in air, within a directional external field (magnetic field, elastic stress), on the basic magnetic parameters of amorphous Fe-Ni-Si-B alloys is investigated. On cooling in a directed external field, the saturation magnetization depends in a complex manner on the annealing time. The Curie point also changes with increase in the annealing time, although to a much lesser extent. No change in coercive force with change in the annealing time is seen up to the onset of crystallization. The results are interpreted in terms of cluster structure of the amorphous alloy and the cluster-size dependence of the magnetic torque.
