Abstract

The anomalous parts of the specific heat capacity of smectic-C and chiral smectic-C liquid crystals above the transition point is calculated on the basis of the fluctuation theory of Landau. The present theory explains the available experimental results of heat capacity. The analysis shows that only the Gaussian model is sufficient to explain the anomalous heat capacity of smectic-C liquid crystals above the transition point.
