Abstract
The characteristics of the Morin phase transition (temperature range and width, magnetic field dependence) are analyzed in pure and manganese-doped hematite from the linear magnetic birefringence (LMB). Anomalous evolution of the LMB is observed under low and high magnetic field, for temperatures lower than the Morin temperature, and is discussed from the magnetic field and temperature dependences of the antiferromagnetic vector.
