Abstract

We performed scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy experiments on the optimally doped Bi2Sr1.6La0.4CuO6+δ to explore the detailed local change in the superconducting energy gap. The discontinuous change in the superconducting gap Δs was observed at the boundary between a patch and the surrounding region where Δs evolved from 10meV to 60meV. We found that the gap value of such patches coincided with the lowest value of the gap distribution.
