Abstract

Unusually high Th230/Th232 activity ratios have been found in the fine sediment deposits of the Mississippi River in the Greenville, Mississippi, area. The ratio was approximately 4.0 during 1963 in this area, whereas a ratio of 1.0 or less was found in May 1965, The 1.0 value seems to be the natural background value for the entire river valley. It is postulated that a natural source for this anomaly is unlikely.
