Abstract
An anodic polarographic procedure is described for the study of sulfur compounds in petroleum. A solvent-electrolyte system containing nitrobenzene has been found which has a high electrical conductivity and in which crude oils are soluble. The preparation and treatment of the platinum electrode is presented whereby polarograms reproducible to 1 or 2% are obtained. Anodic polarograms of crude oils and sulfur concentrates indicate the presence of aliphatic (cyclic and noncyclic) or alkyl aryl sulfide.
