Abstract

This meeting was held the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, New Orleans, La, from September 16 to 20, 1995. The Committee on Skull Base Surgery presented a seminar entitled Tumors of the Parapharyngeal Space and Infratemporal Fossa: Diagnostic and Management Guidelines . The focus was on provision of specific diagnostic and management guidelines for safe and efficient evaluation of these complex cases. Guy J. Petrazelli, MD , Pittsburgh, Pa, reviewed the related anatomy of the petrous apex region. He also discussed the classic manifestation of tumors that occur in this area and Gradenigo's syndrome involving the fifth and sixth cranial nerves and causing diplopia, retro-orbital pain, and otorrhea.
