Abstract

The phrase ‘innovations in wound care’ is so often bandied about that it has become something of a cliché. But how many genuine innovations have we actually seen in tissue viability? Every now and again we hear about an interesting new dressing, such as the topical formulation of amino acid described on page 29 of this ssue, or a new technology, such as topical negative pressure, creates a stir. While of immense value, such initiatives have not resulted in any real shift in wound management. We are still committed to ensuring good wound bed preparation, maintaining a moist wound environment and undertaking a holistic assessment to identify the causes of any delay in wound healing. The fundamentals have not changed.
