Abstract

The year 2015 marks the 10th anniversary of Contemporary Clinical Trials, an international peer-reviewed journal devoted to the advancement of clinical trials. During my tenure as Editor-in-Chief of Contemporary Clinical Trials over the past four years I have received frequent suggestions from the authors and reviewers on the establishment of an open access sister journal of Contemporary Clinical Trials, which not only covers all major aspects of clinical trials but also makes scientifically valid and technically sound original research findings accessible to the global clinical trials community irrespective of their perceived importance, significance or impact. After careful consideration of the suggestions, we reached out to a large number of trial practitioners through discussions and surveys to solicit their thoughts on the need of establishing such a journal, and with the strong support and enthusiasm from the respondents we are excited to launch the journal Contemporary Clinical Trials Communications. In contrast to the several existing clinical trials devoted journals that either give preferential treatment to positive trial results due to their perceived higher significance or focus only on randomized trials, the new journal strives to provide a platform for trialists around the world to share their knowledge on all aspects of clinical trials including, but not limited to, design, conduct, analysis, regulation and ethics. The past decades havewitnessed the globalization of clinical trials. The registry ClinicalTrials.gov alone contains nearly two hundred thousand clinical trials conducted in 189 countries. To better serve the global clinical trials community, the Journal's Board of Associate Editors will comprise experts from not only Europe and North America but also Asia Pacific, South America and other regions where clinical trials have been frequently conducted.
