Abstract

The Royal Netherlands Military Academy and the University of Twente are involved in a joint research on civil-military co-operation (cimic). The rationale to initiate this research is that in most peace support operations, the approach to cimic was essentially impro-visational, pragmatic and ad-hoc. The first stage of this research is composed of a literature review to the process of cimic. This review included both literature on cimic and cooperative arrangement. The second stage of the research approach consists of the development of the process model. In this stage the phases and factors derived from the literature review are structured into a model. The third stage of the research applies the process model to multiple holistic case study. Three cases are included, which focus on the cooperation between the Dutch military entities and civilian actors in peace support operations. Keywords: civil-military co-operation (cimic); Dutch military entities; Netherlands Military Academy
